Breaking News All Schools To Close Tomorrow 2rd August To Give Room For Elections

The general elections will be held on August 9th, going by the school calendar on this date, both primary and secondary school students should still be in school. According to the term dates, the student are supposed to break for mid term break from 11th of August, two days after the elections. However, most of the school classrooms will be used as polling stations and this means that the schools will have to break earlier before elections date. For this reason, Education CS Prof George Magoha has today announced that all primary and secondary schools will close tomorrow the 2rd Of August to give space for the general elections.

This will see students waste days or even a week that initially was meant to be for learning. However, the situation here does not leave the ministry of education with an alternative. This is because the preparations for the elections is on going. The schools will also be used to train the IEBC clerks and deputy presiding officers this week. The schools wasted a lot of time during the 2020 long coronavirus holiday. This has forced the ministry of education to squeeze the term dates to recover the time lost. The teachers are also working all through with very short holidays to finish the syllabus on time and ensure the students are prepared adequately for KCSE.

The 2022 academic is one of the shortest ones on history with only around 7 months of learning. For this reason, the government and Education CS Prof George Magoha should make arrangements early enough to recover for the time that students will waste to give space for the general elections.
