CS Machogu urges public Universities to focus on raising own funds

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has urged Universities in the country to focus more on research and innovations to raise funds to manage their programmes.

CS Machogu urged the Universities to down size on administrative and staff structure in order to secure funds for University development.

The CS spoke Monday morning during a consultative meeting with CEOs of Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAS) such as Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Commission on University Education (CUE), Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), The National Commission of Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), The Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA), National Research Fund (NRF), The Universities Funding Board (UFB) and The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) accompanied by University PS Amb. Simon Nabukwesi.

The CS advised the heads of the agencies to work on performance targets to keep tabs on progress of University Education even as he challenged the CEO’s to look into better reform mechanisms in the University Sector in order to have a clear way forward on strengthening the sector.

He thanked the University stakeholders for the efforts towards ensuring learners get quality education and has promised frequent engagements in order to meet the performance targets in the sector.
