Government set to pay JSS teachers their Accumulated Arrears
The government, through the Ministry of Education, has promised newly hired junior secondary school teachers that they will receive their pay arrears this month.
The The Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department of Basic Education, Dr. Richard Belio Kipsang speaking to media on Thursday from Eldoret assured teachers that by the end of this month, the government will pay the teachers at Junior Secondary Schools all of the back salaries that they have accrued.
In addition, PS Kipsang Says that capitation to all schools will be distributed by next week.
The government of Kenya distributed Ksh17 billion in capitation funds to public schools in the preceding academic year to pay the costs of free primary education (FPE) and free day secondary education (FDSE).
The government paid Ksh16 billion in capitation for secondary schools, according to Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, who made the announcement at the start of this year.
In addition, Machogu stated that all secondary schools would receive Ksh22,444 for every pupil, while all primary schools would receive Ksh15,042 for each pupil enrolled in the seventh grade.
The government distributed Ksh9.6 billion, 15 million books, and 400,000 teaching aids for the Junior Secondary School (JSS) in January of last year.
The Ministry of Education estimates that each student would require Ksh22,444 in school capitation every year in order for FDSE to become a reality.
