KNEC; Senator demands teachers who invigilated KCPE and KCSE to be paid

Senator Esther Okenyuri blamed  the delay to pay teachers who supervised and marked KCPE and KCSE by the Kenya National Examinations Council The senator said that it was unfair to subject teachers to such unexplained delays about four months after they completed their job’ She demanded that KNEC outlines steps it was following to ensure timely payment for the 2022 group and long-term structures to avoid similar delays

Teachers who invigilated and marked Kenya Certificate of Primary education (KCPE) 2022 and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) have not been paid about four months after completing their job and results released.

Speaking in the Senate on Thursday, May 4, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated Senator Esther Okenyuri disclosed that the teachers who tirelessly worked to produce the announced results had not been paid.

She demanded a statement from the Senate Standing Committee on Education about the delayed payment of the teachers who not only marked, but some who had invigilated the examinations.

She further demanded knec  outlines the steps it intended to take to ensure that these teachers are paid promptly after being kept waiting for long.

Her move was lauded by Kenyans on Twitter who acknowledged her effort to speak up on behalf of the teacher whose rightfully earned money had not been paid to them.
