School heads want to be deployed in jss
When the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) issued an advertisement last month, a number of primary school administrators applied for positions in the junior secondary school area.
In a circular dated February 17, 2023, the Commission announced that it had received 10,833 requests for the deployment of qualified primary school teachers to junior secondary schools.
With the process starting this week in several sub-counties, the TSC sub-county directors have already invited the P1 teachers who made the shortlist for document verification.
What’s disturbing is that some primary school administrators are thinking about moving on to junior high and high schools.
Because the deployed teachers will begin at job grade C2, and some administrators are at C3, this may have a significant impact on some of these administrators.
One of the teachers, a deputy headteacher from Mbeere, stated that he applied because he wanted to serve as a junior secondary administrator.
According to Michael Kiura, there are various promotion opportunities in junior secondary that he is interested in. He is also a graduate of the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI).
According to the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) for teachers, the deployed teachers will begin at job grade C2 and then advance automatically to job grade C3 after completing three years.
But, a TSC insider claims that although the school administrators will be transferred, their pay will not be reduced and they won’t be in charge of the new schools.
Several Sub Counties are still engaged in the verification process. The following documents are required for candidates, per TSC.
According to TSC, the teachers will be stationed close to the current location. According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, instructors should be assigned to their existing stations or ones that are close to them as much as feasible.
Unless a station needs more than one teacher with the same subject combination, she also advised Sub-County Directors not to deploy instructors with comparable subject combinations with those already posted to JSS.
She suggested that SNE- qualified teachers be sent to Special JSS.
Each instructor must have two letters of deployment signed by the Sub-County Director. One letter will be given to the teacher, and the second original letter will be sent, along with other deployment paperwork, to the headquarters for filing.
