Schools reopening Calender 2023 and form one placement
Placement of Form One students will start in two weeks time, 16th January 2023. The Ministry of Education has also issued new rules guiding the transition.
According to circular dated 1st November 2022, from PS to Basic education, secondary schools are required to make changes to the instructions for KCPE candidates joining form 1 in January,2023.
The Permanent Secretary(PS) said the form 1 reporting date will be on 30th January 2023.
To Protect parents from exploitation by schools the PS ordered Principals to stop making purchase demands to parents. He asked principals to cease from directing parents to procure uniforms or any other materials from specific stores.
“Schools must not direct parents to procure uniforms or any other materials from a central location. At the same time,schools should not ask parents to come and buy items in the school,” reads the ministry circular.
According to the updated school calender, all the pre-primary, primary and secondary schools in the country will reopen on 23rd January 2023, learning process to go for thirteen weeks and then close on April 21st 2023.
The students will also take a half-term break from 23rd to 26th March 2023. After schools closure on April 21st 2023, students will have a three weeks holiday break as from 22nd April to 7th May 2023.
In Second term, students will break for half term from June 29th to July 2nd and spend their holiday from August 12 to August 27.
Third term will be from August 28 to November 11 while the December holiday will take place from November 3 to January 2024.
KCPE national exams are scheduled for November 6 to 9 while the KCSE exam commences from November 10 to December 1 for three weeks.
