TSC ANNOUNCES NEW JSS RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR 2023/2024

TSC JSS Recruitment Requirements. The adjustment in qualifications for P1 teachers to instruct junior secondary schools (JSS) in Kenya is a result of the implementation of the competency-based curriculum.

This shift has moved a significant part of the academic emphasis to secondary schools, lessening the workload in primary education.

TSC JSS Recruitment Requirements

Beginning in 2024, students currently in the class under the 8-4-4 system will transition to Form 1, after completing the Kenya Certificate of Basic Education (KCPE) examination.

Junior high schools will serve to educate students in grades 7, 8, and 9 as they prepare for the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) 2-6-3-3-3 system after the sixth-grade national exam.

To adapt to these changes, the Ministry of Education and Culture has chosen certain primary schools,

To convert into secondary schools and improve the infrastructure of these Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).

In response to the shortage of teachers in both primary and secondary schools,

The Ministry of Education and the Department of Teachers will deploy primary teachers to supervise high school students in secondary schools.

TSC JSS Recruitment Requirements

Eligible elementary teachers must meet specific criteria, including qualifications in special education, early childhood development education,

diplomas or degrees with an optional secondary school component, or relevant subject qualifications, even without a C+ grade in KCSE.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) plans to place P1 teachers with these qualifications in secondary schools,

which encompass diplomas, advanced degrees, graduate degrees, and even master’s and doctoral degrees for teaching in secondary schools (JSS).
