Officially Confirmed: TSC Teachers to Pocket Upto 9.5% Salary Increment From August. With the lowest-paid teachers obtaining hikes of up to 9.5% and the highest-paid teachers earning raises of 2.4 percent, the pay of teachers who work for the (TSC) will be adjusted.

Prior to this development, the TSC met with the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), and the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET).

During this meeting, the groups approved an extension to the 2021–25 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the TSC, which will free teachers from new statutory deductions and rising living expenses.

The extension was duly signed at the Kenya School of Government under the supervision of the union’s secretary-general. Two significant financial benefits are covered in detail in this appendix:

The pay rise will be implemented retroactively as of July 1. Changes to housing benefits for educators who work in smaller towns and rural areas are part of the agreement. Instructors at Teacher Grade C2, which is the beginning point for graduate teachers, would experience a rise in their basic pay of up to Sh4,164 under the conditions of the recently signed CBA. The highest tier (DS) will receive a raise of Sh4,883, while C3 employees would receive a raise of Sh5,141.

Akello Misori, secretary general of KUPPET, vehemently challenged the Salaries and Remuneration Commission’s compensation cap for teachers in Grade CS throughout the proceedings.

Additionally, home allowances have increased for teachers employed in rural and developing townships, rising from Sh2,100 for Grade C2 to Sh8,700 for Grade D4.

In August 2023, the Commission will have completed promoting 14,738 teachers, and 36,275 additional promotion positions have been advertised. According to the TSC statement, the purpose of these promotions is to motivate instructors to improve output and performance as their careers advance.

According to Misori, this happens after the geographical Clusters 4 and 3 were joined to establish dwelling allowances. Misori reiterated that KUPPET was actively involved in current efforts to completely align home allowances with rates that were applicable to Nairobi City, mimicking the approach taken with commuter allowances.

Notably, the teachers’ unions gave full harmonization of dwelling allowances and the initial wage increase ranging from 30 to 70% priority.

As stated by TSC, all teachers will receive their wages by the end of August..
