After candidates sat for KCPE and the results were announced, the secretary of the cabinet of education, Ezekiel Machogu, confirmed that the selection process would be completed on Tuesday, January 17.
Speaking to the press, Machogu noted that the Ministry of Education used a computer-generated placement system based on performance, choice and capacity of a particular institution.
Affirmative action, especially in national schools, is also practiced to enable justice among the underprivileged.

“Form One selection is automated. That’s what we used,” he shared Nation.
However, the president of the National Parents Association, Silas Obuhatsa, urged the government to allow for equality between students of private and public schools.
Specifically, he pointed out that the Form One selection criteria favored public school students and then disadvantaged private school students.
The chairman called for smart students from private schools not to be denied the chance to be placed in national schools.
“We call for fairness in the selection which is carried out solely by the Ministry of Education. Children should be given the opportunity to attend the schools of their choice. Parents should be involved in the exercise in the future,” he noted.
Obuhatsa also urged the Ministry of Education to place students in schools they selected, taking into account proximity to the school and travel costs.
“It must also stop sending children to remote schools that they never chose,” he stressed.
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Secretary General Akelo Misori also echoed Obuhatsa’s comments and called on the Ministry of Education to ensure that the criteria are based on a candidate’s choice and performance.
“If a child is not selected for a school of their choice, they should be given the opportunity to join an institution of the same category. The criterion depends on the choices and merits of the candidate,” he noted.
In the past, CS Machogu has reiterated the government’s commitment to the 100 percent transition policy.
