Paul Gicheru, a lawyer and potential suspect before the International Criminal Court, has passed away.

Gicheru’s body was discovered motionless at his Karen residence on Monday night

According to police, the lawyer was allegedly poisoned after eating lunch.

He had a late lunch and felt sick, so he went to bed but didn’t wake up, according to the police.

Police have launched investigations into what caused his death.

Gicheru turned himself in to the ICC on November 2, 2020, in accordance with an arrest warrant that the ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber II had issued on March 10, 2015.

Paul Gicheru was accused of influencing witnesses in the crimes against humanity case against President William Ruto and former journalist Joshua Sang.

The two’s cases were formally closed in April 2016 when it was determined they had nothing to answer for.

Gicheru is accused of offering payments and other inducements in exchange for witnesses recanting their past statements to the prosecution or withdrawing as witnesses.

He, however, entered a not guilty plea to each accusation.
