Ruto Set to Open And Address 13th Parliament

 

 

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and his Senate counterpart Amason Kingi have announced the official opening of the 13th Parliament by President William Ruto.

In a joint statement on Friday, 23rd September Wetang’ula and Kingi said that President Ruto will open the National Assembly and Senate and make an address on 29th September.

According to the ConstConstitution, President is required to address the opening of each newly elected Parliament

 

“Following a notification by HE the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, H.E. (Dr.) William S Ruto, CGH, the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Speaker of the Senate have scheduled a joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament to take place on Thursday, 29th September 2022 commencing at 2.30 pm for purposes of opening the 13th Parliament,” the statement read in part.

The statement also noted that under the Article 132(1) of the Constitution, Standing Order 22(2) of the National Assembly Standing Orders and Standing Order 25(2) of the Senate Standing Orders, require the Speakers of the Houses of Parliament to notify Members of the place, date and time of a joint sitting of the Houses of Parliament.

“All Members of Parliament and the general public are notified that the opening of the 13th Parliament shall be held in the National Assembly Chamber, main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 2.30 pm.”

After President Ruto makes his address in the house, the sitting shall be adjourned until the Speakers convene both houses in order to start conducting business.
