Tanzanians, Ugandans react to proposal to extend William Ruto’s tenure
Tanzanians and Ugandans on social media have shared varied reactions following a proposal to change the law to allow Kenya President William Ruto to extend his term of office for up to two decades.
The amendment has been promised by Fafi MP Salah Yakub.
He argues the duration a Head of State stays at the helm should be based on age and not the period of service.

Ugandans have twice changed the constitution to extend President Yoweri Museveni’s reign to close to four decades.
In 2005, Ugandan legislators removed the term limits and in 2017, the lawmakers again voted overwhelmingly to scrap an age limit capped at 75 years.
Museveni has yet to announce whether he will contest in the 2026 polls.
