Politicians have been ejected by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from the National Tallying Centre in Kenya’s Bomas. On Saturday, August 13, Commissioner Abdi Guliye issued a statement ordering politicians and anybody else without a specified job to leave the tallying center where the Forms 34A and 34B are being verified. According to Guliye, the decision was consistent with IEBC’s intention to speed up the verification process and limit influence from unauthorized parties, such as politicians.
The IEBC would only permit the Chief Agents of the presidential candidates, their deputies, and clerks helping with the verification process to enter the auditorium, the Commissioner continued.
“At the gate, there are instructions that no one should enter the area. We have instructed the police to act in this manner “As Guliye said. However, media representatives, diplomats, and election observers were permitted to continue and observe the proceedings. The leaders of the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja factions disputed the election commission’s decision, calling it irrational, and they voiced their displeasure
