TSC issues a list of teachers excluded from CBC Retooling
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has decided to exclude primary school teachers assigned to junior secondary school (JSS) classes from the training scheduled to begin next week.
In early March this year, the board deployed nearly 7,400 qualified teachers to teach 7th grade students.
According to TSC, only teachers newly hired as JSS instructors will participate in the training from October 9 to 13.
Starting next Monday, approximately 56,000 7th grade teachers will begin training under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Dr. Nancy Macharia commended the teachers participating in this activity for retooling themselves to verify CBC compliance while continuing to monitor their normal academic programs. Macharia said this while speaking at the Kenya Government School in Nairobi to mark World Teachers’ Day.
TSC congratulates all preschool and primary school teachers who have successfully implemented CBC and are actively helping Kenyan learners acquire fundamental skills and values.
Some of the core subjects that will be monitored by teachers during the realignment include teachers of languages, science, mathematics, humanities and technical subjects.
The commission announced the above-mentioned training program in a memorandum sent to TSC regional and district directors dated September 26.
Middle school teachers will be trained at teacher training colleges (TTCs) and other professional fields in the district.
The 7th grade teacher training process will begin on October 9 and last until October 13.
