TSC Lists Top 10 Counties That Will Be Awarded Highest Number Of New Teacher Employment Slots

The Teachers Service Commission recently announced commencement of the hiring process of thirty six thousand new teachers for both primary and secondary schools.

According to a document shared yesterday by the commission with the Parliamentary Education committee, the slots have been distributed to all 47 counties depending on the existing shortage of teachers.

Below is a list of top ten counties that will get the lion’s share of the 36,000 slots ( numbers show total number of teachers to be employed).

1. Kakamega – 1,449

2. Kitui – 1,445

3. Nakuru. – 1,223

4. Bungoma – 1,208

5. Meru – 1,120

6. Makueni. – 1,056

7. Machakos. – 1,050

8. Kisii. – 995

9. Homa Bay – 975

10. Narok. – 912

Most of the teachers will be deployed to teach in grade seven, the pioneer junior secondary class under the competency based curriculum. According to the TSC, the Counties which received the larges the share had the largest shortage.
