1.Ensure you have TSC Minimum Requirements

(a)Diploma teachers

For the teachers who hold diploma certificates, the qualifications for teaching in Kenya as a secondary school teacher are clear.

You are required to have the following minimum qualifications. 

• A diploma in Education from a recognized Teacher Training Institution.
• The candidate must have attained a minimum mean grade of C+ in KCSE or its equivalent (one principle and two subsidiaries in A-level). At least C+ or credit pass in the two teaching subjects.

(b).Graduate teachers

TSC degree qualification is equally essential to understand before making applications. The qualifications for secondary school teachers under this category include;

• A mean grade of a C+ at KCSE and at least C+ in each of the two teaching subjects or an equivalent (2 principles and 1 subsidiary pass at ‘A’ Level).
• Bachelor of Education degree with two teaching subjects.
• Bachelor of Science with education or Arts Degree with education with two teaching subjects.

Simply pick the two subjects in which you did well. This is because if there is a tie at the TSC recruitment interviews, the panelists will take the applicants’ performance at the KCSE into consideration.

2.KCSE AND UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE PERFORMANCE

Occasionally, your KCSE mean grade will be useful while applying for TSC jobs. If there is a tie between two applications, the panelists will look at the applicant with the stronger KCSE certificate.
