Azimio Heads To Supreme Court as Leaders Show Confidence of a Raila Win After Recount

Barely a week after Wafula Chebukati named William Ruto as the president elect, Azimio la Umoja leaders have contested Ruto’s win with a petition ready to be filed in court today.

According to the Azimio presidential Runningmate Martha Karua, the alliance will be tabling a petition in court that will overturn Ruto’s win and more so deliver a win to the Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga.

Earlier on yesterday, Kakamega county Governor Wycliffe Oparanya alleged that the Azimio flag bearer Raila Odinga had won against the president elect William Ruto with a mega margin reportedly with over one million votes.

In another interesting twist Farah Maalim also alleged that, the petition against Ruto and the IEBC would make Ruto lose his seat and even name Rao as the winner.

Maalim also alleged that if a recount was done, Raila Odinga of the Azimio wing would emerge as the winner.

“The UDA win will be nullified by Supreme Court on grounds of 1) disparity between votes recorded for Presidency & other offices in same streams in many Centres 2) materiality. If recount prayer is carried RAO will be declared winner & if not RAO will win in rerun period.”

This interesting development comes amid lengthy preparations by Dp Ruto and his team to face off the Azimio lawyers at the Supreme Court.

Previously, the Supreme Court has made some landmark rulings among them the nullification of the general elections back in 2017 forcing the country into a rerun.

After the rerun, Raila Odinga refused to participate Alleging that Wafula Chebukati and his opponents were biased and could not conduct any credible elections.

Currently, the same wing led by Raila Odinga and Martha Karua have alleged that August 9th polls were filled with malpractices.

One of the grounds by the wing has raised questions as to how people only voted for the president in some parts and avoided voting for other leaders like governors and Mps.
