Kenyans Told The Multi-billion Deal Ruto Has Signed That Could Cause Them Problems Soon
Some of the moves President William Ruto is making at the moment appear hasty and unthought about, which could land the country in problems in the coming days, analyst Macharia Munene warns.
Ruto has been meeting foreign presidents and delegations since he took over office in September, some of whom he has sealed deals with on behalf of the good people of Kenya.
Among them is a Sh500 billion deal he recently settled at with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, meant to advance six projects in Kenya, with the aim of boosting Kenya’s leadership on climate change.
But Munene warns that the speed at which the deal was arrived at might mean that there are sections of it not carefully looked into, which could land the country in trouble in the coming days.
“The President appears to be rushing into many things, such as his recent deal with the UK, which could turn out to be a problem in future,” he told The Standard.
He also warns that Ruto seems to be trusting his diplomats too much, which is also dangerous.
“He is definitely listening more to the diplomats, but the first incidents – Western Sahara and reversing the ban on genetically modified organisms – show he is easily manipulable,” he is further quoted.
