Ruto launches mass employment programme targeting 1 million youth, How to apply

The administration of President William Ruto has partnered with KEPSA to provide training and employment opportunities for young Kenyans.

The Kenya Youth Employment & Entrepreneurship Accelerator (KYEEA) was officially launched at the KEPSA offices in Nairobi on Monday, October 31, 2022, by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Kenyans under 35 will be able to receive training in business, technology, and finance under the ambitious program.

DP Gachagua commended the business community for partnering with President William Ruto’s government as it seeks to find solutions to the country’s youth unemployment problem.

“Today I am honoured to preside over the launch of the Kenya Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Accelerator Program. The youth remain central to our Government’s agenda to improve the lives of the millions of youth around the country,” said Gachagua.

“Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are key in achieving the targets of the Kenya Kwanza Plan,” Deputy President Rigathi asserted.

KEPSA has promised that the programme will leverage technology and digital transformation, which are some of the key promises of the Kenyan Kwanza government.

“We all know that the youth were largely involved in the clashes of the post-election violence of 2007/2008. As the private sector, we sat together and agreed to provide solutions and this is how the youth agenda was birthed,” Kui Kariuki, CEO, KEPSA.

The new employment programme will also offer direct employment to a number of youths who will be absorbed into the service.

The plan is aimed at equipping Kenyan youth with skills that are necessary in addressing unemployment in the country by making them employable.

According to the Kenya Bureau of Statistics and other economic reports, youth unemployment in Kenya is estimated at 38.9% with an estimated 800,000 young people getting into the labour market every year from universities and other higher learning institutions.

Qualifications & How to apply

KEPSA urged Kenyans under the age of 35 to apply for the training and employment opportunities on their website kepsa(dot)or.ke.

The applicants must have completed secondary school education, and have no pending criminal records.
