With Royal Media Services and Nation Media Group leading in vote tallying for the Presidential results in the just concluded General Election, the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has blasted them for being relatively slow in that exercise.
Chebukati who was contrasting the kind of figures that the media houses were reporting to the number of Form 34As that have so far been uploaded on the IEBC website concluded that the media houses were a little bit behind.
That the verified and final Form 34As on the IEBC portal had it that the real time results should be at 97% yet the media houses were way behind in their tallying and reporting.
He even joked that “maybe you were not prepared for this.”
“I want to believe that for the media, you are doing your own tallying although you are a little bit behind. You should be at 97%. Maybe you were not prepared for this.”
At the time of writing this article, 45,266 Form 34As out of 46,229 had been uploaded on the IEBC portal which represent a 97.92% reporting.
He then went ahead to say that “results for Member of National Assembly and Member of County Assembly are declared at the constituency.”
That that’s maybe why we’ve been witnessing aspirants concede because the results announced at constituency level are final and the whole process is being conducted with utmost transparency.
“I want to believe that that is ongoing. The returning officers are finalizing that those declarations and once they are done, they’ll bring us presidential results that’s Form 34A and B.
I want to believe that the people conceding at the constituency level have received their results. This is a transparent process starting from the county-level to the presidency.
For all the six selective seats, once you have your results and you know what you’ve got, you have to accept your results because there is nothing you’ll be waiting for,” he said.
