JUST IN: IEBC Gives First Briefing On The Ongoing General Elections

Independent electoral and boundaries commission has given its first daily briefing regarding the ongoing general elections. IEBC through a statement has stated voting commenced today at 6:00 am and all the polling stations in the country and in the diaspora were all opened and voting is in progress.

The commission also urged Kenyans who have not yet voted to come out of their homes and go to the polling stations to cast their votes. The commission also noted that voting in diaspora is happening in 12 countries Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, UK, Canada, USA, South Sudan, Qatar, UAE and Germany.

As at noon, the voter turnout was 6, 567, 869 kenyans who had turned up to vote which equals to 30 percent of the registered voters. The commission had postponed the gubernatorial elections in kakamega county and Mombasa county.

Further, the commission postponed elections for member of parliament in Kitui Rural and Rongai constituencies because of wrong candidate’s pictures and teg details were printed in the ballot papers to a later date to be announced through gazette notice.
